Ashby Baggers Take on Europe: Triumph at the ACO European Major
The Ashby Baggers made their mark at the inaugural ACO European Major in Manchester on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th March, showcasing their skills in a landmark event for the club. The American Cornhole Organization, known as the governing body for the sport since 2005, hosted this prestigious competition, drawing participants from across the USA and Europe.
Club members Alistair Pettitt, Nick Pettitt, Tony Gavan, Jon Wishart, Charlie Lomax, and junior member Austin Pettitt all debuted in their first ACO event. Ben Gregory was also present, offering support and networking opportunities with American Pro players.
The event was a resounding success for the Ashby Baggers. Austin Pettitt made a splash in the junior division, securing a third-place finish. Nick Pettitt notably walked away with two trophies, winning both the Tier 3 ACO World Singles Championship and the Tier 3 ACO Doubles Championship alongside Craig Smith from Scotland. Meanwhile, Tony Gavan, Charlie Lomax, and Alistair Pettitt earned ACO Pro Membership Status, a testament to their high-caliber performance.
Becoming an ACO-PRO brings several benefits, including eligibility for ACO-PRO Series tournaments, a free ACO-PRO jersey for the top 80 ranked players, and significant bragging rights among the cornhole community.
This Manchester weekend was not just about competition; it was a significant step forward for the Ashby Baggers, illustrating the club's growth, talent, and the bright future of cornhole in the UK. The achievements of the weekend are a source of pride for the club and highlight the potential for further success on the international stage.
