Ashby Baggers Host Another Thrilling Club Night: Alistair Pettitt Takes Top Spot

Last night, Ashby Baggers hosted another exciting evening of Cornhole action, with a field of 20 players, including three newcomers eager to try their hand at the sport. The night’s competition was set up as a round-limited singles tournament, which added an extra layer of intensity to the games.

A Perfect Performance from Alistair Pettitt

In a dominant display, founding member Alistair Pettitt claimed the top spot after a flawless night on the boards. Alistair took down tough opponents including his brother Nick, Jon Wishart, Tony Gavan, Charlie Lomax, and finally Ben Shaw in the final to seal the win. With an impressive 8.76 average points per round, Alistair showed why he’s one of the club’s strongest players. His consistency throughout the night, with most of his games averaging over 9.0 points per round, made him a standout performer.

Ben Shaw Fights Back to Take Second

Ben Shaw, who had a rocky start and suffered an early loss to a resurgent Tom Allen (who finished in 4th place), fought his way back into contention. After defeating Charlie Lomax in the semifinals, Ben found himself facing Alistair in the final, ultimately securing second place. His performance showed great resilience and determination, earning him a well-deserved spot at the top.

Charlie Lomax Claims Third

Charlie Lomax had a strong run throughout the night, making it to the semifinals before facing off against Ben Shaw and then Alistair in a tough match-up. Despite a great effort, his night ended in third place, but his performance demonstrated his growing skill and competitive spirit.

PPR Highlights and Close Finishes

While Alistair Pettitt took the top prize, the highest PPR (Points Per Round) of the evening went to Jon Wishart with an impressive 10.25. However, despite this strong showing, mixed results left him and his son-in-law, Tony Gavan, tied in 5th place.

Newcomers Making Their Mark

A special mention goes to newcomers Josh, Colin, and Andy, who all benefited from coaching by the regular players throughout the night. By the end of the evening, each of them was throwing some solid bags and showing great potential. We hope to see them return for more fun in future club nights!

Results:

🥇 Alistair Pettitt

🥈 Ben Shaw

🥉 Charlie Lomax
